Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr has clarified the circumstances surrounding Thatayaone Ditlhokwe’s unexpected transfer to Libyan Premier League champions Al Ittihad.

The Glamour Boys confirmed the transfer agreement with Al Ittihad on Friday via a statement.

Ditlhokwe joins Al Ittihad after an 18-month stay with Amakhosi, during which he made 32 appearances across all competitions.

The 26-year-old joined Chiefs from SuperSport United at the start of the 2023/24 season. A recent player to join Amakhosi from SuperSport is striker Tashreeq Morris.

He is scheduled to travel to Tripoli this weekend to join his new teammates and coaches. Ditlhokwe will be joining a squad that includes fellow Botswana international Tumisang Orebonye, who recently made a high-profile move from AS FAR Rabat for a reported US$500,000 (R9.2 million).

Chiefs’ Kaizer Jr said that Al Ittihad tabled an offer for the services of Ditlhokwe, who communicated his wishes to the Amakhosi management to leave the club.

While admitting that it was tough to let go of Ditlhokwe, the Amakhosi sporting director Kaizer Motaung said that they are a club that doesn’t stand in the way to players who seek greener pastures elsewhere

KAIZER JR: ‘WE DIDN’T WANT TO IMPEDE HIS PROGRESS’

“It was not an easy decision for us when Al-Ittihad approached us regarding TT. We engaged the player, and during our discussions, he expressed his desire to move to Libya for further experience and opportunities,” said Kaizer Jr.

“As a Club, we didn’t want to impede his progress, and we appreciate his professionalism and discipline.

“Although we will miss him, we believe this is a fantastic opportunity for him, and we would like to thank him for his dedicated service to Chiefs and wish him the best of luck in his new venture.”
