The Premier Soccer League’s Disciplinary Committee has charged Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates for spectator misconduct, as confirmed on Thursday by prosecutor Zola Majavu.
The two neighbours from Soweto pleaded guilty to charges of spectator misbehaviour, specifically related to incidents of throwing missiles. Amakhosi pleaded guilty for throwing missile during the recent Soweto Derby.
The Bucs pleaded guilty to the same offence in their fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Chiefs were fined R100,000, with R50,000 suspended on the condition that no other incidents of spectator misbehaviour occur over the next 12 months.
However, Amakhosi already had a suspended charge of R100,000 due to previous spectator misbehaviour, which has now been activated, requiring them to pay R150,000.
On the other hand, Pirates were charged R100,000 for the new offence. R25,000 was suspended, resulting in an immediate payment of R75,000. Due to a reoffence within 12 months, the previously suspended sentence of R50,000 is now active. As a result, the Buccaneers are required to pay R125,000.
The two Soweto rivals will share the costs associated with Thursday’s hearing and are required to publish these sanctions on their respective websites within seven days.
