Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana has signed with USM Alger of the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1, marking his latest move in a career characterised by frequent club changes.
The Burundian international joins the Algerian side as a free agent, following his departure from Iranian club Zob Ahan Esfahan in January 2025.
Bimenyimana’s move to USM Alger underscores a pattern of short-term contracts and frequent transfers. After concluding his tenure with Chiefs in September 2023, following a single season with the Soweto giants, he joined Libyan outfit Al Ahli Benghazi on a free transfer.
His time in Libya was brief as he was released in February 2024. Subsequently, he signed with Zob Ahan Esfahan in October 2024, only to be released again within a few months.
During his time at Amakhosi, Bimenyimana made 21 appearances across all competitions, contributing eight goals and one assist. His performance in South Africa garnered attention, but ultimately did not lead to a longer stay.
USM Alger announced the signing of Bimenyimana on Monday evening, confirming that he has signed an 11-month contract. The deal will expire at the end of January in the 2025/26 season but it includes an option for an extension.
This move to USM Alger marks the 11th club of Bimenyimana’s professional career, highlighting his status as a footballing nomad. The 27-year-old striker now faces the challenge of establishing himself within the Algerian league and finding stability after a series of rapid club changes.
“The Burundian striker had signed with the club on 5 February 2025 on a contract extending until 31 January 2026, with the possibility of renewal,” reads the club statement.
